About Maya

My name's Takas Neşeli, but everybody just calls me Maya. My Mum named me that after one of those funny dogs with no scent from the TV. That's an anagram for 'My Amazing Young Anatolian', whatever an anagram is. I'm five years old, I weigh 55 kilos, and I am fawn with a black mask, but I have a white tail tip too. I live with my Mum and Mum's pets in sunny Townsville, Australia.

Celebrations

Now Mum is back home, things are right back to normal. This week it was Mum's birthday so we did some celebrating this weekend! We went around to Grandma's place, and she cooked us all a very delicious meal. There was also a desert the humans said was delicious, but since the desert was chocolate us dogs were not allowed any.
Don't worry. We got treats!

Goldie, Grandma'd puppy, has only gotten bigger and bigger and she is still exceptionally crazy to boot.

She jumps. A LOT.

So I tried to wear her out with some racing. Of course, I am WAY faster than Goldie is.

Those two glowy lights behind me are Goldie's eyes

But she doesn't really get the message.

All things considered, she's not such a bad pup. Crazy, but not bad.

Now we are back home, some of our neighbors are having a loud party across the road. They were just on the street setting off loud, bright things Mum says are called 'fireworks' - she came to check on me and Zeke in case we were scared. Zeke was a bit worried, but the fireworks didn't scare ME. I just went right on sleeping - keeping Goldie in line is tiring stuff.

Hmmff

WELL. I just found that these past few days, during which I've been staying at my favourite kennel (I got to make some new friends and we played and swam all day)... but Mum went to MELBOURNE. I know... without me.

Hmmff. She saw my Mum-Mum (The canine one who taught me all my manners when I was a puppy) and a heap of my relatives like my cousins Arie and Obi, my Aunt Raven and Aunt Dragon, and even my own brother Humphry!

But, it is good to be home again, and Mum said next time I would be allowed to go too! I think I would like to have a Melbourne Adventure.

Best Day Ever!

Had SUCH a fun day today! Me and Mum went to the RSPCA's Million Paws Walk, which we also did last year. This year it was way more fun because it happened at Jezzine Barracks, one of our new favourite places. Mum said I was a very well-behaved girl! We got there early to sign up and walk around at all the stalls, and we saw lots of friends and groups there we knew. I got SO MANY pats and SO MUCH attention!
OHHAI!
I caught up with an old friend called Cleo from the dog park, it was very good to see her again. I remembered her right away too!
Me and Cleo on the walk!

Then I made a new friend, an Akita called Zen! Zen was very much a fun dog, he really wanted to have a game of Wrestle. Maybe I'll see him at the dog park sometime and we can play!
Zen is AWESOME.
For the walk itself we went down to the Strand and around the rockpool there, then back up to Jezzine. After we were done, we stayed to watch some demonstrations, but to Mum's surprise some of our Agility friends asked us to join in! So I showed everybody that big dogs can EASILY do the tunnel. I had a lot of fun showing off, but I think all the people watching made Mum nervous. She was a bit shaky after we were done - I think she needs more training! Our friend Ayla (who did my colouring for the World's Greatest Shave a few weeks ago) was there with FJ the poodle, and she took this video of me doing Tunnel!

After it started to rain we left with most other people, and Mum took me to work! She made me a special bed to sleep on in the back dock, but I was lonely and I wanted people to keep giving me pats and attention, so I howled until Mum let me walk around with her. Then I got EVEN MORE pats and attention so that was excellent.
Grumpy on my special bed where nobody can pat me...

I don't know why Mum wanted me to sleep, anyway. I wasn't at ALL sleepy.
Not even a little bit.

Beach trip with Zeke and Goldie

Mum took me and Zeke to the beach today, where it was very windy, and there were big waves. Mum said it was too cold for her to swim so she just paddled, but do waves or cold stop me? Of course not!
Me and Zeke playing Tag in the water

Grandma showed up with Goldie, too, who was very excited to be at the beach. (But then, I'm pretty sure that 'very excited' pretty much describes Goldie's natural state). Goldie didn't do very much swimming either, but she did do a lot of pestering.

"Do you mind, pup?"

"Some of us are TRYING to swim here..."
SIGH.
"Oh good, look, she's annoying Zeke now."

Still, Goldie isn't soooo bad. I guess she's okay to play with. (Not as much fun as Austin).

Anyway, despite Goldie's pestering-ness, I did get some good swims in. Sometimes there were sneaky waves, though...

"Where on earth did THIS come from?"

I also got in a few jumps on this super-tricky double log.

"Wish the guys at Agility could see this!"

But then we headed off to Work, and Mum gave both me and Zeke hydrobaths. Sigh.

MUUUM! I just swam in the ocean, I'm ALREADY clean!

On the plus side, Aunty Lana was at Work, and she gave us treats... yummy treats, so I suppose being bathed was worth it in the end.

Evening run

It's really starting to get colder here (Not as cold as Melbourne of course) and I've started to be glad of my warn fur at night. Apparently Mum has been busy when she goes to Work, selling special dog coats to people with dogs that don't have nice long fur like mine, which helps keep them warm! Anyway, Mum drove me (car ride!) to Bluewater Park tonight and put me on a long line and let me RUN around the big grassy oval there. She also brought a new toy, but after a few throws I decided that sniffing things was way more fun than running after a toy and making Mum chase me to get it back.

There was a Barking Dog over by the caravans at the park, a big Rottweiler. At first I thought it might have been Jax or maybe Keiko or Tamu some of my Rotty-friends, but once I smelt him I soon figured out I didn't know him. I was a good girl though, Mum told me to ignore him and his barking, and I did. There were also some barking dogs running around this morning all over the road by our house! Since Mum wasn't home then, I barked right back at them to let them know that this house is under MY protection so they better not try anything. And also running around on a road is just silly. I bet all the neighbors thought I did a good job telling those naughty dogs off!

Anyway, we left Bluewater park and came home, where I helped Mum recycle.

"Mum, there's a problem... this ice-cream is empty..."

During winter-time, I have a special dog bed I'm allowed to lie on that Mum puts in the living room for me. Oh, and Mum brought me a new toy from Work for me to road-test. Road testing is one of the super important jobs I do, checking out how tough and tasty new dog toys are! Man, it's such a hard life.

Busy busy

Lots been happening lately, haven't even had time to blog! We've been going to Agility of course, and enjoying swims at the river and the beach before it gets too cold. Walking at night - which we do when Mum works late - is getting a bit chilly though! There's mist on the roads we walk beside, and Mum wears a jacket. I feel a bit sorry for humans, who can't grow a nice thick winter coat like us dogs!

Watching the sunset after it's too cold to swim at the beach!

We also fit in some visits to one of our new favourite places, Jezzine Barracks.

It's pretty at night.

At the river during the day it's still nice enough to swim, but Mum says to enjoy it while it lasts because there may not be enough water in the river to swim for much longer. We also found a mini-island, just my size, in the river that definitely wasn't there last time!

Mini-island was very fun to explore!
There's always time for a race at the river!

Me and Mum have also done a lot of driving to rescue Dad, I think his car is a bit broken. We take Mum's special battery pack to him when it breaks down, and that starts it up again.

Driving is hard work.
Still, driving gets you to a lot of fun places, so hopefully Dad will get his car fixed soon! Who would want to miss out on fun car trips?
