About Maya

My name's Takas Neşeli, but everybody just calls me Maya. My Mum named me that after one of those funny dogs with no scent from the TV. That's an anagram for 'My Amazing Young Anatolian', whatever an anagram is. I'm five years old, I weigh 55 kilos, and I am fawn with a black mask, but I have a white tail tip too. I live with my Mum and Mum's pets in sunny Townsville, Australia.

A Stormy Australia Day

We spent Australia day - well, just Australia evening, really - at the beach. I think this is a very Australian place to spend a holiday! Even though the weather wasn't very nice, we didn't mind. A little rain and wind never stopped me!

Or my brother Zeke, either!

It's actually nice to have some rain, since it's been so hot here lately. Mum though, is a little worried about something called a 'cyclone' that might be happening this week. I'm not quite sure what a cyclone is, I wonder if I'll find out this week? Whatever it is, I'll help protect Mum, so she really has nothing to worry about.
I hope everybody had a nice beach to spend this Australia day!

Walking, playing, rollerblading

Today's Adventure was a visit to Grandma's place to see Goldie, and we had a quick play.

Goldie trying to trip me

I suppose little sisters are meant to be annoying, aren't they...

Then, we got to go for a walk on the Strand. Goldie had never been there before and she was a bit scared of the people on bikes and skateboards. I was what Mum called a 'good example' since I am not scared of anything at the Strand.

After we had our walk Mum took me for a little rollerblade, and Grandma took this video.

Grandma was very impressed that I was so good at staying beside Mum. Really rollerblading with Mum is no different than walking with Mum, except we go faster so it takes a bit more concentration.

After the car ride back to Grandma's, Goldie was almost close to being tired... she stayed still for a whole two minutes!

Tired Goldie... maybe it's a blue moon?

Dog Park Days

Well, dog park afternoons, anyway! This afternoon Mum and I took a car ride to North Shore and had a walk there. (Mum says we live 'out of town' so we need to car ride, well, everywhere. Which is actually okay by me.)

Before I was allowed to go into the dog park, we did lots more Sit, Wait, and Drop. Mum is really obsessed with these things and we practice them over and over, but you know, she's getting pretty good.

I made a new friend called Luna, who is a puppy with good manners. There is a photo of Luna playing with me - I lay down so she could bite my face, since I am too tall for her when I'm standing up.

Then I made a second friend, a staffy called Tyson. Tyson's owner was very nice and gave Mum a compliment about what a good dog I was because he'd seen us doing training work. Tyson is very fast for a staffy.

THEN Leeds the doberman came in! Leeds has grown since I last saw him in October. He grew a LOT. He is almost as tall as I am, although he is still skinny and his huge paws and long ears are still ridiculous. He is getting better at Wrestle, though, and he still has very nice manners.

After we played Wrestle, we played Race. I am the fastest dog in the dog park so of course, I always win Race. Leeds with those lanky legs can come close, though.

Before we went home, there was just time for a drink. I shared with Leeds, because I have nice manners, too!

Beating the heat

It's still very hot here, but that's okay because it means lots of beach visits! Yesterday afternoon Mum took me to the beach. I had to do lots of work practicing Sit, Wait, and Drop first, but then I got to run around on the long line (Mum said there were too many people to be offlead) and do lots of swimming.

Mum says I go a bit crazy at the beach.

There were also lots of interesting rocks to sniff. I sniffed them most seriously.
See how serious?

Mum brought a floaty toy for me to play with. I wonder if Mum knows it's too big for me and hard to pick up?

After all the swimming and playing, we finished up with some downtime on Lookout Rock, out favourite place to sit. I was very useful.

Mum says I am a good footrest.

Ever-Growing Goldie

Goldie gets bigger by the day - though she is still smaller than me. Me, Zeke, and Mum went to visit her and Grandma today. Goldie still doesn't have very good manners and still does lots of face-jumping. Mum says she will be calmer when she has grown up a little - at the rate she's going, that shouldn't take long. I did play with her for a while.
Goldie is pretty fast for a puppy and so I run around Grandma's yard and let her chase me. Sometimes, I let her almost catch me.

We helped out around the yard by deconstructing a mortal enemy - a palm tree branch. I bet Granddad will be happy when he sees the great job the three of us did with it.

Zeke doesn't really play much anymore, but Goldie jumped all over him to try and get him to wrestle anyway. I am one of the only dogs that Zeke will play with. We also had a swim in the doggy pool, but after I made the water muddy Mum tipped it out.

Turns out this bucket isn't big enough to swim in.

New Adventure at Bluewater

Today me and Mum went somewhere we'd never been before - there were so many fun new smells to follow! The place was called Bluewater Park and it was an exciting place to have a walk.
First, because it was very hot today, we went down to the creek and carefully walked down the rocks and sand so we could have a swim. Well, I had a swim, Mum just paddled.

Afterwards I rolled in the dirt, which is an excellent way to dry off if you have fur like mine. Mum laughed for a long time when I rolled right down the bank. I didn't see what was so funny - I completely meant to do it, of course.

After we were done swimming and exploring the creek bed, we walked across a big green field. It was nice to see all that green grass. There hasn't been much rain here, so a lot of the grass is browny coloured right now. Then we got to some trees and there were lots of little paths going through them. Oh- and there were bridges, even though there was no water underneath them.

And check out the awesome throne I found before we went home!

Austin + Goldie = FUN!

Went on a really fun car ride (car ride!!) today with Mum and her friend Dani, who is the Mum of my very-best-friend, Austin. I was a bit jealous of Austin and grumbled at him a little, but Mum said it was okay for him to share the car.
We went to Grandma's house to see her and Goldie. Goldie is growing up very fast (Mum says I grew even faster when I was her age...) and had a really fun playdate. Goldie is a bit of an annoying puppy - I am sure that I was NEVER as annoying as her when I was little. She jumps all over your face because she hasn't learned very good manners yet. Austin and I had to teach her some (We did that by growling at her when she got too carried away). After a little while, Goldie was less annoying and bouncy and played properly.

It has been really hot lately, so hot that I don't even mind Mum not putting the windows down when we do car rides, because she puts cold air on instead and it's really nice. So after all that playing, I had to have a swim in Goldie's shell pool to cool down.
Grandma also went for a swim in the People-pool that I'm not allowed to go in.

Please let me in to swim? What's a pool filter?

We played for ages, and Austin had fun exploring all the fun things Grandma has in her garden, like the drawbridge! Mum and Dani were talking about how Dani, her human mate Rhys, and Austin moving soon. I hope they aren't moving very far away, because Austin is the most fun to play with... even though Mum says I tease him too much.

Moi? Tease Austin...?
